Max Pateman answers some questions about his journey as a Graduate Trainee

What made you start a career in accountancy?

I’ve always been told I have a keen eye for detail and I’ve always been good with numbers. I knew several people who worked in accountancy and discussed with them what they actually do on a day-to-day basis, and it was very different to what I’d thought.

What’s something you didn’t expect?

One thing I didn’t expect from accountancy is how little I would use my mathematical background and how the biggest skill I’ve been able to bring across is my ability to problem solve.

What are your career goals?

My goals within accountancy are to progress my career at Larking Gowen and become a senior auditor with a portfolio to manage.
