Elsa Shah answers some questions about her journey as a Graduate Trainee

What made you start a career in accountancy?

I was looking for a career that would be interesting, with good potential for personal development, a good network of colleagues, and the all-important work-life balance! Accountancy has ticked all those boxes for me.

What’s something you didn’t expect?

Something that has surprised me about accountancy this year is that accountancy isn’t all maths – it’s more important to have an analytical mind and good communication with clients and colleagues.

What are your career goals?

Larking Gowen has clear pathways for progression, so I’ll be able to progress my career until I’m happy with my role. As the ACA Chartered Accountant qualification is transferrable, I’ll also have the flexibility to work anywhere in the world, allowing me to continue my professional development.
